Donald Glover, otherwise known as Childish Gambino was a headliner at this year's Coachella music festival. After his set he showed a film that he created featuring none other than Rihanna. The two came together to show off their star power in a different way other than music in an hour long movie.
It has a musical feel to it and shows Glover playing the role of Deni Maroon who is a musician on the tropical paradise known as Guava Island. The more you progress into the film you see that the people out of the community are too focused on their work instead of letting loose. There is a resistance after Maroon is trying to bring together a celebration/music festival to the Island.
Rihanna plays the character Kofi and she is the center of the song that Deni writes to unite the people. They both work regular jobs but carry a love interest throughout the movie.
Throughout Guava Island Deni breaks out in song and dance to some of Childish Gambino's hits from the past year. "This is America", "Feels Like Summer" and "Summertime Magic" are made into a musical rendition to go along with the plot.
There have been mixed reviews online but I enjoyed seeing the two stars collaborate in this unqiue fashion. It shows how talented they both are as artists.
