I'm sure this list is going to piss a few people off but let me know in the comments which albums were left out.
10. Logic (No Pressure)
This was Logic's farewell to the rap game. If you listen to this project from start to finish it is a pure hip hop album. He did not ride on a hit single so No Pressure is best consumed as the body of work as a whole.
9. Lil Baby (My Turn)
This was Lil Baby's breakthrough into the mainstream. We Paid was one of the year's top hits. He capitalized on the momentum he gained the last couple years. Having Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Wayne, Gunna, Moneybagg Yo and Young Thug as features helps as well. Sum 2 Prove and Woah got plenty of radio spins which will be nice additions to his greatest hits catalog.
8. Justin Bieber (Changes)
This album was overlooked. Bieber produced a new sounding body of work displaying his growth as an artist. It is a very short 51 minute project with Intentions featuring Quavo and Yummy following the typical pop records leading as singles. Once you make it past those tracks you get songs like; Habitual, Come Around Me and Available which blend trap beat elements with his take on R&B.
7. Ariana Grande (Positions)
Ariana Grande's run as a pop star continues with this album. Her songs 34+35 and Positions have gone super viral on Tik Tok almost instantly. If you are into pop music this is for you. She knows her target audience and caters to them perfectly.
6. Pop Smoke (Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon)
Coming just a few months after his tragic passing this project shows off what Pop Smoke was destined to be and that's a super star in the music industry and not just for hardcore rap fans. What You Know Bout Love, Mood Swings, The Woo and For The Night are some of this year's most popular songs. These songs have taken over the internet memes and Tik Tok gaining hundreds of millions of plays and interactions. 50 Cent executive produced the album and enlisted the game's top artists so that his legacy may live on.
5. 21 Savage & Metro Boomin (Savage Mode II)
21 Savage and Metro Boomin have done it again. They did not disappoint with this sequel. Metro shows you how elite he is as a producer. Each song seamlessly melts into the next while 21 takes you on a journey through his thoughts. Go listen to Mr. Right Now featuring Drake and then let it plays right into track five.
4. Jhene Aiko (Chilombo)
I don't care who you are if you listen to this song you feel like a bad bitch. B.S. featuring H.E.R. is a top five song of 2020. P*$$y Fairy, None of Your Concern, Triggered and Happiness Over Everything perfectly display her versatility as an artist. She gives you so many vibes with this project.
3. Juice Wrld (Legends Never Die)
Rest in peace to the legend Juice Wrld. Posthumous albums can be tricky but this seems to have be done the right way. This album should be listened to front to back. He flexes every creative muscle with these songs giving you bars on Conversations, giving you sad music on Righteous and experimenting with a pop/rock blend on Man Of The Year.
2. Lil Uzi Vert (Eternal Atake)
Baby Pluto delivers again with his long awaited Eternal Atake project. He teased fans and the media for nearly two years before dropping early this year. Lil Uzi is always pushing the envelope experimenting with flows, styles and voices. This album was made for all occasions from blunt rides to shower concerts. Also what he did with the deluxe portion was genius giving his fans the unreleased songs that they had been asking for.
1. The Weeknd (After Hours)
It had been nearly four years since the last full length album from Abel. When he lead the rollout of this project with Heartless and Blinding Lights it showed that he was entering a new era. Sonically this album somehow sounds retro and futuristic at the same time. In Your Eyes and Snowchild are completely different moods but are pieces to the puzzle. After Hours as a whole is a sound that no artist has been able to achieve. Some tracks are very spacy like After Hours and others are in your face like Heartless with Metro Boomin production. His falsetto voice glides on these techno synths and house beat drum patterns. The Weeknd yet again shows that he can make pop music but also does not sell completely out.
